How much do you guys do in the offseason (clinics, camps, etc) if any? Another way I could ask this question is, how much time do you spend on football in the summer?

Personally
we practice 4-7 PM every monday-thursday... that includes any chalk/meetings/film/weights/conditioning and field stuff
i usually leave my house shortly after 2:15/2:30 to beat the traffic I am the first coach there (only teacher, so i am off all summer, they all have day jobs)
i get everything opened up (field, weight room, my classroom, locker rooms)
i usually leave between 7:45-8:00 depending on how long it takes to put away equipment and how much BS-ing i do with the other coaches ( we have great varsity staff chemistry)
so typically, 4 days x roughly 5-6 hours per day if you count my drive time
add in a couple HUDL watching hours at home and practice planning time at home...

poundit52 I think you misunderstand. At least MY (and I am betting Chris Clement 's ) "offseason" comments were in response to the cumbersome (in my opinion) schedule listed by coachbdud . A written double take if you will, as in "thats what you do in the "OFFSEASON" regarding 3 hours of practice 4 days a week in the summer. Also, are you talking about youth (under 7th grade) football ? If so, I can't say what others would do, but my answer would be nothing. If you are talking about a team associated with a school, then I can envision some summer work outs..maybe 2 days a week.

I actually would like answers to both what an offseason looks like for youth (under 7th grade) and Middle School football (7-8th grade) if that's possible. Sorry for any confusion. Thanks!

If you are talking about a team associated with a school, then I can envision some summer work outs..maybe 2 days a week. i would say our offseason (Summer) is pretty par for the course around here. in the winter/spring it is much less, all we can really do then is weight lifting until spring ball. However in our section (CA is divided into a bunch of sections) for the last 10 years or so, they got tired of trying to police the complaints about teams practicing illegally (all the best schools were already practicing everyday in full gear) so they instituted a period which is now defined as June 1- August 10(the august date can change but it is pretty much the 2nd monday in august. during that period, NCS (our section) has no rules regarding practice regulations now there is the new CA law about hitting but that is brand new. Up until this summer you could (not that you would) go full gear, full contact 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6/1-8/10ish this year we haven't been able to do full contact/thud stuff until this past WED (7/22) and that was just our section, most of CA chose not to adopt that policy and won't go live until early august. anyway, as far as summer schedule goes, i am sure there are team who do less than us but i would say most do 4 days a week i am sure there are some that do all 5 days we tried this 2-3 years ago... i hated it, the kids hated it, the other coaches hated it. We were all burnt out by the first game, they are 14-18 year old kids... "back in our day" we didn't practice non stop year round like it is today 3 day weekend gives everyone a little break, including us coaches. Makes nice weekend trips possible for everyone, and i am less frustrated because i am getting about 90% attendance on any given day (of our 4 day week). When we tried fridays too, we would end up with half the kids there, so what is the point i am sure there are many schools who just lift/run over summer maybe do a couple passing tourneys but i would say the majority of teams in our area are doing the lifting/conditioning... and getting some on field practice in

So i didnt realize after my initial post that this was in the youth section

How much do you guys do in the offseason (clinics, camps, etc) if any? Another way I could ask this question is, how much time do you spend on football in the summer? as a REC league Middle school aged coach (here in california, we dont have middle school programs), i probably put in way more time then I should... --i go to 4 clinics a year: that alone is probably - 32/40 hours. --weekly coaches meeting - 2 hours a week --monthly board meeting (coaches gotta run the league too) - 2 hours a month --Player sign ups - 4 hours every other week --fundraisers - probably 4 hours every other month. --Player Camp - 20 hours (2 hours a day, 5 days a week, 2 weeks) thats just in the off season, and not including personal time (putting together practice plans, playbooks, scout cards, self scouting.) that would probably be another 3 hours a week throughout the entire off season. it adds up....
