I have decided to take this season off from coaching. This is the first time will be doing this after coaching 12 years straight. Now, I will be slightly involved because my son who is 10 will still be playing. Now how much will I be involved it will depend on who ever his coach will be. And if I end not being involved at that is fine with me as well. I like to hear from you guys that have taken a year off to see what you did with your time.
Thanks,
Mike

Refocused on what it was that burned me out and on what I should've done to prevent myself from doing it again. Spent some much needed time with my girlfriend, especially traveling. Spent more time with friends. Spent more time with my mom and dad. Pretty much, trying to regain some sense of balance. I'm a workaholic and a perfectionist. That's what ran me out of coaching last time. Took the year off to refocus on establishing relationships with my players and those in my life. Came back better than ever.

It's definitely going to be fun for you to be "dad" during a football season for your kids. Enjoy your time off, coach.

Thanks, Mike my advice to you is that if you are taking the time off, take the time off. the risk that dads run (especially coach dads) is trying to coach their kids team from the stands.

I took 2011 off and filmed the games. It was a nice break after being part of the Board the previous 5 seasons....and coaching at the same time. I was fried. It helped me refocus.

Well the season is now over and I ended up not taking the year off! I was ask to be more involved with my sons team and was asked to help another team. Good news is I didn't feel burned out and both teams made the playoffs.
