Looking forward to doing this for the first time ever. Gotta get us out of this funk we're in.
Also, by doing this...we are basically saying the previous JV staff wasn't very good. They can take it anyway they want...but it's true. I can't stand getting kids from the JV that scratch their head when they hear something from a varsity coach for the first time.

tothehouseThat drives me nuts more than anything... when I was in CA, TONS of JV teams ran completely different offense/defense than the varsity. Having to teach EVERY KID a new offense and defense for the 1 or 2 years they are on varsity didn't make sense to me. Here with kids able to play both JV on Thu and Varsity on Fri, there is a lot less of it, but the Sophomore level has some teams that run completely different things... never made sense at all. Lower levels should be farm system for your varsity.

Oh Miller...they are a farm team...and "run" what we run...with the same terminology. I think the enforcement of the terminology, etc. was shoved down their throat. Players weren't made to understand it. With a sly smile...I say...that won't happen this year.

9th - Varsity all run the same O/D. They can run whatever they see fits their personnel- just make sure it's taught the same way with same terminology as we teach it.
Example this past season:
Var O- Wide Open Pass and run game JV O- smaller pass game, all our RPOs, and 2 runs 9th O- some of our RPOs, little pass game
Var D- 4-3 Quarters with multiple adjustments, not as much blitzing JV D- more 4-3 + 8 man box and lots of blitzing 9th D - ran mostly our stack (425) package and goalline defense (62) due to all the run game they see. Lots of blitzing
All levels share the same terminology.

For us it was never a slam on the JV only because we did it from year 1 We tell our parents, kids, other coaches in our program that THE reason we do it is is so that kids hear how to do something the same way for 4 years from the same guy - frosh 8th string RB is coached by same guy who coaches the all league 1st string varsity RB... Same terminology, drills, and verbal cues... works great... It creates a stronger program IMHO...

I get that...but no matter how you slice it...those guys can/did take it that way. And I'm okay with that. I know how much time and energy I put in compared to them. I'd rather go down fighting with what I controlled than watching mediocrity. I'm not saying I'm "better" I'm saying I try harder. Those guys can take it however they want. My feelings won't be hurt.

Of course they got butthurt... Ego got in the way which is probably why they stunk it up and you guys had to change haha... Tell them what we tell our kids all the time Don't get bitter, get better...

I don't have time to stroke your feelings. When kids are clueless on our basic terminology...then they didn't teach them. Period. They can say they did...but it's not burned into their mind. If not...we're taking over.
Anyway...looking forward to trying this out. Now...if it sucks...I'll look in the mirror for help.

We are going with this. Varsity staff is going to handle practice. I'm grooming a young guy to call the JV O, how funny is it that I am calling someone else the young guy
I must be getting old
Overall it'll be much better and we will be much more competitive at the lower levels. Our JV team was loaded last season and was less than mediocre. Zero fundamentals were taught. They could not block or tackle.
I'll call it like I see it, I'm better because I understand focusing on Indy wins you way more games than running team for an hour and having a bunch of plays

One of the reasons we did this is exactly what bdud stated above-
IF their is a lack of fundamentals it will fall back on EVERYONE not just the JV coaches. I know I'm not going to let that happen, and my staff understands that they are held accountable for all levels.
