Nothing there that I don't read here every day. I want to make sure that I don't make it sound like I consider it a generalization about youth coaches. She could have written it about some HS or college coaches.

I genuinely hope her son isn't good enough. I don't wish him harm... I just hope he's not good enough.

Not trying to be snarky (OK, maybe a little) but if she hasn't spoken to the coach in over a decade, and her son was a 10 year old at the time, doesn't that make him a 21 year old high school kid? Is that even legal? Of course, I taught Social Science, not Math. DC, help me out!

Instead of being a 21-year-old junior at a D-3 school benching over 400 pounds and squatting almost 600, I should have stayed in high school! Probably would have been D-1 material!

More than likely yes, but the hotness to crazy factor is also pretty proportional I would imagine.

On my board...this is a fun topic...because the coach's from the HS her kid will attend are on my board. They haven't replied yet. Which makes it even more interesting.

This isn't a win/loss record determines how good a coach is post, but the thought of it got me thinking.
I may have missed it in the letter, but she didn't say anything about wins and losses. Although wins and losses had nothing to do with her son having a good experience, many angry parents will use a poor record against a coach whenever they have the chance. So just for discussion sake let's say this coach and team was always very successul in terms of wins and championships. I know this is a 10 year old team in the letter, but forget age for a second and open it up to any level coach. The thought/question that came to mind was this....
How many coaches out there that always win win win where ever they go would sound like a good coach if you couldn't mention wins/losses, championships, how many players went on to play in college, how many awards his players have received, etc.?
In a nutshell I guess my post is a "you're only getting one side of the story" post.

What I learned from reading that letter though is to give the same attention to the 45th guy on the roster as you would the 1st.

Has it occurred to anybody that she's right and the coach sucks? For me, the "20-21 year old senior" problem discredited the entire writing. Are there lousy coaches at all levels? We both know the answer to that. Is this a true story about one of them? I don't believe so.

I would like to hear more about your training here. Well I have watched it on TV several times, so in the same manner as almost every man in the stands on friday night and every armchair QB on Monday at the water cooler, I am therefore the foremost expert on how to properly play gymnastics. I mean christ, how hard can it be, there isn't even a defender out there most of the time. This...gives me a great Idea. DUELING gymnastics. Two Girls---One beam!

First of all, her kids are in middle school. They will be freshmen next year. Putting my stalker skills to use: Jen Cohen - @soulpursuitblog & @jencohen3 Cougar - eh...for me she is not a qualifier. I mean if we were both at a basketball game and I was already going to the concession stand and I walked past her I might stop and talk to her, but she's not "I was just going to the concession stand" as an excuse to go talk to her and I am certainly not going to walk across to the other side to talk to her. Per her son Caide (the QB) - www.hudl.com/athlete/4345323/highlights/191680352/v2I'm not going to make an assessment on his abilities because that's not my place, but per the discussion here - it seems like she is a helicopter parent^2, who is perhaps a little too proud of her kids. As is shown by the google search results. www.google.com/search?q=Caide+Cohen+quarterback&oq=caide+&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j69i59j0l4.3616j0j4&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8&gws_rd=sslWe all know there is a lot of change that happens between youth and middle school and high school. As far as the few clips I see on hudl my first question is - why isn't there more clips? I mean, if a dude is a dude even in middle school (I won't even get into my opinion on the Middle school high light films) he should have a bunch of clips from a lot of games not just 3-4 clips from 2-3 games. Just sayin... Now with all that being said - if the coach said he wouldn't amount to anything, I think that is wrong so I'm not going to shred this mother for her son's middle school success..which I take as going from not playing much in youth, to playing in MS and I'm happy she is proud of her son's and is obviously a football mom...but hey Jen...chill out and enjoy watching them play, the odds of Caide going to Oregon and Cole playing WR at Florida are not probable...first of all Cole playing WR at Florida is about as likely as me winning a bronze medal in women's gymnastics at the next olympics...you live in California, Florida is not going to go outside of Florida to find wide receivers and if they do, he will be the #1 or #2 receiver in the country. I know Coachhuey's has been slow the last few weeks but how bored are you to find that? Read more: coachhuey.com/thread/68480/letter-coach?page=1#ixzz3VskowpwC

Not to get too much on the "this is why the world sucks" tangent, but this is why I hate the news sources. How is this news? Huffington Post calls itself a worldwide news source. With all the violence, poverty, and corruption in this country and in the rest of the world, how in the heck is this news? Its a lady's opinion on how a coach doesn't think her son is as good as she thinks he is. Maybe he's a terrible coach, I don't know. If he said what she said he did, theres definitely some questionable statements. But why in the world are we reading a whiny complaint and calling it "news" If you got a problem with the coach, take it up with him. Don't write a passive aggressive article to make yourself feel better.

coachmonkey - very bored. Last 4 weeks has all been testing and make up testing. Next week is spring break, so we have 4 days and the kids are completely unmotivated and well...I'm not going to be here next year so my "motivation" is somewhat lacking itself. The good thing about teaching history was that there are a lot of movies.
