That really sucks. A pretty bad deal...im amazed that a university...a place for education...would do something like that...

Maybe I am just getting old and am from the generation that remembers life before the internet but why is anyone surprised by this? I mean it's their film they can do what they want with it. Even if it's a TV broadcast pretty sure they run disclaimers saying it's the property of the network or league when they show games. You just can't go posting anything you want, their still is ownership of that material and the owners can do what they want with it.
Seems like as the internet becomes a bigger and bigger part of our lives those who lived without it for years maybe understand better than those who have always had it and don't know life without it.

I think Life after football will come back..looking different..like spread says, if you can "make it different" there really is no copyright infringement...

We live in a sad sad world where people think they own and can do whatever they want with other people's property because the Internet that's why. Kind of backs up my point of a generational difference when it comes to this stuff.

He tweeted Saturday he was in the process of adding text, but no videos, back to his site. (He later told another use he'd add high school video, but would hold off on any college video)
As of 2:28 on Sunday, he said the site was back up.
As of 5:49 this morning (Monday) he told another user "It's done. I received another legal threat over the weekend. Not worth my time & effort."
He later told another user who was thanking him for his work " [...] I did everything I could, but it's obvious the legal issues and harassment won't stop."
He followed that up by telling another user that the new legal threat was from a second school. So at a minimum, Auburn and one other school had beef with his website.

Actually what;s ridiculous is your argument that they don't own their own film because there are two teams in it. I hate legalistic arguments like this. They're the reason that it's so hard to get playbooks anymore ("It's not copyrighted, is it?". They're the reason why my friend of over 40 years can't give me a game tape or a cutup. It's been said that Coach Light is a good man and I'm sure that it's true. I'm sure that he had the best of intentions. He put in a lot of hard work and it's a shame that it's gone but don't blame Auburn. If it wasn't them it would eventually have been somebody else. Nobody like seeing their trust abused.

I agree coach. To tell you how big of a deal this has become is an understatement. The conferences (who actually own the rights to the film and sets distribution policies) are now looking at new policies and extra measures to ensure these types of things don't happen again. Even things such as allowing coaches to use coaches film in clinic presentations and instructional videos is going to be looked at.

also, its a university, a business built around education...why do they care if someone is using film that they appear in (i wont say its Theirs..because it isnt) to learn from? Selfishly, I hated to hear the film was taken down. It was a great resource. But, college football is not built around education. They care precisely for the reason you say. Because people will learn from it. True, other programs can get that film, but that doesn't mean Auburn (or any other program) is fired up about having it out there.

Am I right when I say he's putting parts of his stuff back on? My guess is he's double checking with all of his "sources" before putting it back on, which would be great.

This is ridiculous. Does anyone actually think anyone besides internet coaching geeks (and I say that as a term of endearment) like us are viewing that film? You think Nick Saban watches film off Jim Light Football? I visited a college who shall remain nameless who was playing auburn this yr. They had every film Malzahn has been the HC or OC from. And no they were not an SEC school, and no they didn't download it from that site or youtube.
What is even more ridiculous about this situation is Malzahn was a HS guy who allegedly originally copied the Wing T word for word from the Raymond Book. Lucky for him Raymond shared what he did with the outside world.
The reason football is the greatest game and evolves so quickly is the sharing of information. Maybe we should be like baseball where the same old adages held for 100 yrs.
