I use the computer for everything. We have scouting software that we hook-up to a mounted projector and show film with. I use power point for all of the presentations and I use powerpoint for all of the play cards for the week.

We have a scouting/film program that we use for cut ups and highlights. We got lucky since the guy who wrote the program has kids who graduated from our school so it was donated to us! Thats about it for the comuter.....except for the insane amount of time i spend checking this board LOL

Heavy use of DSV and Excel grade reports.
Also add in another Excel document with the scouting report for the next week.
People come to me for computer advice.......I tell them to never use the word "expert" and "computer" in same sentence when talking about me.

I do everything on the computer except for our film breakdowns. We are working on that but it's taking some time. I do practice scripts, scout cards, grades, stats, depth charts, game plans, and on and on and on...

We do pretty much everything off of it...but could still stand to be more efficient.
I use it for scouting and film cut ups.....burning game discs and scouting discs. I use Excel & PowerPoint for practice plans, scouting sheets, scout cards, game night sheets and qb wrist inserts, and grading sheets.....
I plan to take advantage (at the 'next' gig) with showing clips from a laptop (with a projector) calling up catalogued plays as needed and using more presentations to get the game plan across to kids.
That, and hosting torrents for kids to download scouting and game films from during the season...as well as creating off-season "mental reps" with cut up quizes.

Use PlayMaker for playbook and PowerPoint to show some Xs & Os stuff. On the video side, we convert to digital to burn DVDs, or, I should say, my wife does that.

powerpoint- we draw up the formations the other team uses and all of our defenses against them. Then individual plays are added in powerpoint also (play cards).
excel- grading system for defense, by individual games for each individual player. Depth charts. Also used to keep a summary of the season for varsity and jv. (scores etc). Our league has a records keeper that keeps a running total of everyone in the league for defense, offense, special teams and records. Also use excel for our T-shirt, sweatshirt orders.
digital scout- we dont use a book to keep stats on the games anymore. we use digital scout and keep all the stats on a palm pilot. Then we can e-mail everything out to the papers in about 10 minutes.
we use pinnacle for cut-ups, but we dont do this very often as it is time consuming. (usually just the big opponents, or cutting certain problematic plays for us together to show the kids what they are doing wrong consistently)

Pro Scout- cutups and scouting reports
Powerpoint- playbook and anything that is presented
Excel- some scouting reports
I cannot imagine coaching in the pre-computer days.

tog .... once you really master DSV, you will be rockin' ...
each day that first year i seemed to find something new i could do with it ... now, it's like clockwork ... printed reports, cut-ups, overlays, on and on ... at the touch of a button (click of a mouse, really). we actually make very little "tape" as we are on a network so can view whatever whenever wherever ... no need making tons of tapes for everyone.
pracitce plans, scripts, huddles, scout teams, special teams, etc. are all done on excel for the entire week (one file, not tons of individual files -- so, you just click on week 8 file and you automatically have all the pratice schedules, scripts, etc. for week 8). i don't use many sheets from my legal pad during the season ... all on computer -- DSV, playmaker, excel, word

I use it for EVERYTHING. POWERPOINT for plays and game planning. EXCEL for GAME PLAN, PRACTICE PLAN, SPECIALS and WRISTBANDS. PAINT for plays. PLAYMAKE PRO for plays too...
This year I will use WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER for a highlight film.
ditto to sls. But I can remember the pre-computer days...thankfully I am a bit artistic...LOL

Tog, we are working on getting access to a keyhole satellite, but thats classified, can't go in to details other than we can read the other coaches play sheet from 125 miles up real time on game day..... Just like everyone else on here, I'm glued to the computer at work and home and use it for everything football related also, though I don't have the nice DSV type toys to use, that would be SWEET. But honestly, nothing wrong with a marker and vanilla folders either, not as pretty but quicker sometimes.

Whenever I get the oppurtunity I am going to switch from LRS to DSV. I'm sick and tired of dealing with all the glitches on the LRS program. It's nice to have something but there sure are a lot of problems to be paying that much money.

wow and to think we still draw plays in the dirt on the sideline.
technology only creates more technology which creates more work and less time to play.

I use playmaker pro for scout sheets and our playbook, used Microsoft power point, Excel, word as well...
But outside of that, I'm on the white board or drawing stuff up on index cards or whatever I can draw on...
I'm with airman, some of the HI TECH stuff is a little to time consuming.

my unofficial title is tech coord.
thats just because i'm the only one who knows how to turn on the computer.
seriously, i use it for everything. kinda like huey said, although we are on one now i don't like as well as dsv.
excel and word are my primary sources. use a lot of power point and publisher too. i have a template for everything. they call me template guy sometimes because as soon as a question comes up, i usually go "i have a template fo that."

Thats funny. Did chop teach you that or or what. I am the tech guru at our little school. I am the only one that can copy the dvd to tape. do not ask them to do anything with the computer. I even have to type up the play sheets because they cant use word or excel.

so that's what that big black Dell-looking thingy is used for?
I use Powerpoint mostly for developing the visual presentations for the team.
Still looking at technology in the future as the Jr High I am at transitions into a HS in 3 yrs. Until then, just drawing plays in the dirt Little Giants style

Dang, you guys are killing some trees! Seriously, I remember doing it by hand. However, now if I want to watch a certain play I don't have to run through a tape searching for it, I just do a search on the computer and it takes about 15 seconds.

For those of you that us DSV, Proscout, other editing programs. How much time during the week does it take you to capture, cut, edit, etc. the two or three game films you have? Does being able to find a play in 15 seconds justify the hours it took to enter all that in the computer? Is it really important to be able to pull up all of the 2nd and mediums on the right hash from the 50 to +20? Would your time be better spent doing something else is what I'm asking. By the way, I probably wouldn't be asking this if I wasn't the only one doing all the video editing at our place !!!

with DSV ... takes maybe about 6 hours combined on saturday to capture, breakdown, and label 6 angles (3 games). we do several tasks at one time. we start @ 7:30 am ... done by early afternoon. depending on when we get the tapes, may be less of a strain as we can do a little on the prior thursday & friday. (we trade with our conference opponents on thursdays before the week of our game -- exception of that friday's game, of course)

The depth of DSV is how deep you want to go. I don't have help breaking things down so all I do is capture and ODK. I can get cut ups off of that, but do not break the other team down that deep. If I had more time I would.
I also create AVI files and make DVDs with chapter menus instead of going straight from my computer to a DVD recorder. This step makes it longer, but I don't have to sit in front of the computer to do all of this. During the burning phases I play with my kids or watch college football. DSV saves hours of time!!!
