I am a relatively new HC who has been blessed enough with a good set of kids, coaches, and parents. We are a 9u team playing in our state championship game on Saturday. Winner goes to Florida.
Today is our last practice (all defense) before the game Saturday. Since we have been in the playoffs I have scaled back a bit on full contact hitting drills and live short scrimmages.
I have considered just going to "thud" today just to be safe as sometimes these boys like to really get after it when we go live.
I feel like since this is my first time in this situation I am overthinking things bit. Should we just keep doing just like we've been doing or would it be wise to back off a bit and just to go to thud?
thanks in advance for your feedback.

Don't try to teach them a new tempo the day before the state championship.
