After paying for T-shirts and coaches' salaries, I take our camp fees and buy each coach a T-shirt, pocketed nylon shorts, hat, game shirt, and pullover. Coaches that work it also get camp Tee.
When we have extra money I'll buy them a sweatshirt or parka.

I have the funny problem that I hate our school colors (purple and yellow), so I tend to wear neutral-ish colors (black, grey, white, etc).
At practice I wear shorts until the weather changes and then I wear sweats. I wear a variety of half-zips, short sleeves, long sleeves, almost all of it UA.
Games I'm team polo and khakis, team hat maybe. I dress pretty nicely as a personal habit, so I try to apply that to gameday, too.

Practice- Anything goes
Gameday-Polo and Khakis....once the northern MN weather kicks in we bring out our Cabelas Guidewear and Hunting gear.
I am curious why some programs require coaches to wear school gear/colors during practice.

I don't "require" coaches to wear school gear or colors during practice.
If you require kids to wear to wear school issued stuff at practice, why not coaches?
Bottom line - dress professionally.
It's what you should do if you're a professional and kids will respect you more for it.

I've had regular school football shorts that looked cool but you don't realize how important pockets are until you don't have them.

I think it's just a part of being a team.

Kind of off topic but for the last 5 years I have been wearing Merrell waterproof low top hiking shoes to practice. Best shoes I have ever had. Comfortable, waterproof, last me about 18 months per pair with constant use. A grizzled old vet once told me to take care of my feet and recommended them to me. Best advice he ever gave me.

Sorry, messed up the quote.
I guess we differ on this topic. I dont feel that coaches wearing a school t-shirt makes you more or less professional. Our players are not issued the same practice jerseys because we use our old game jerseys for practice.

Yesterday, a junior transfer to our school was lifting weights. He had on his old HS gear from his sophomore year. His old HS is a rival school. One of our coaches said it wasn't gonna fly and he asked why. "This isn't Rival HS." "This isn't Stanford either." Coach was wearing athletic shorts with Stanford S and colors on it. They were athletic shorts. They were appropriate for what activity we were doing. But, they weren't blue and gold and he got called out on it. Now, we either all have to wear school colors/gear, or say anybody can wear whatever they want, or say players HAVE to but coaches don't. Option C is not an option to me. As blb said, if we ask the kids to do it then so should we.

I've been learning this lesson all over again with spring practice this week. I need to replace my shoes because my feet are killing me and my calves are aching after practice. No. Bueno. It's also in keeping with what I've figured to be pretty good advice, "Don't be cheap with the things that separate you from the ground: shoes, tires, and beds."

Just hoping the kid wasn't embarrassed.

Just hoping the kid wasn't embarrassed. I talked to him immediately after the incident and let him know that he was okay to finish the workout in his gear. He's new to the school so that was all he had and he didn't want to borrow one of the sweaty old shirts of another player. We get our new shirts on Tuesday when we start spring ball so this should be a one time incident. I'm bringing up the uniform policy at our staff meeting on Sunday so that we get it squared away. Don't worry, coach. If anything, we were the ones who were embarrassed lol.
