Ill never understand why coaches work so hard to turn kids toward soccer.
soccer= kick ball, chase it around, fun football= gassers, agility drills, discipline? that's not fun.
Teach 3 point stance Teach how to throw and catch teach blocking and tackling let them play some touch or flag football teach them how to take a handoff teach them how to snap, long snap, kickoff, punt and catch punts and kicks diagram a play and let walk, jog, run it show them some great highlights of nfl hits and youth hits
forget all the ugly stuff that turns them toward soccer
OK, but do you think each of those things would be equally appropriate for 7Us in the spring?
I think having a coaching clinic for the Junior Football coaches is more important if you're talking about teaching technique. Those are the guys who are going to be working with them all year. It's hard to say that in 2 five minute periods my three point stance drill to 30 - 7 year olds is going to take. Our goals are to get as many kids out as we can, have a good time, be a family and get them excited about playing Junior Football and hopefully playing varsity football for us one day. We're recruiting for our feeder program plain and simple. Whatever we can do to help them will help us in the long run.
