We won our first playoff game today 35-6. This team nearly beat us a few weeks ago- but they came out very flat today..didn't really give us too much of a challenge. We got the ball to start the game and drove 65 yards for a TD off Buck Wedge Reverse. Onside kicked it got it back, 7 plays later score off 22 wedge kick fails 14-0. They drove back down the field and scored off a QB sneak. 14-6. We get a 1st down punt they do too another time. We are driving with about 1:20 left in the half- we run buck lateral and their DE reads the play great and they stuff us for a -2 loss. One of their dad coaches jumps ups slaps the ground and yells at our kid to stay down- play got strung out to their sideline. I was incensed- we scored off 16 power to go up 21-6 at break. We tack on another TD off Spin 49 Sweep and 18 sweep in garbage time. I didn't let up until the very end- and in the post game handshake line I gave the coach a piece of my mind. I told him that what he did had no place in youth sports and that hes really tough for belittling a 9 year old. He promptly shoved me I stepped away and me and the HC talked it out- he apologized- said the guy was a cancer to the team and they had had other issues with them- this was the last straw. Me and him shook hands and we agreed to give a report to the commissioner. Hated it for their kids- and our parents- drama in the stands ensued. Everyone is fine-although I made everyone stay after to allow us to cool off. Next week we play the top team in our division- we haven't played them yet but they are very fast- and beat the team that beat us by a TD. It will be very very tough to beat two good teams back to back. I think we can beat them.

We won tonight 13-7 to get into the championship game of the 8-10 B 18 team bracket. This team we played had not lost a game all year, beat one poor team 56-0 this year. They were big and very very fast- an inner city team that was a sister team to a team we played a month or so ago and won by three touchdowns- except it was a 2 TD game most of the game. Clearly there was some stacking going on- their A team lost in the first round of the playoffs- there were at least 3 kids on this team that were A material. They had a DE/WR that was probably about 5-2 at 10 years old and max ballcarrier weight, a running back who had scored four touchdowns in one game last week (a la Al Bundy) who was close to max ballcarrier weight and was probably the best player we played this year, and a fullback and MLB who was built like a tank. This team had four formations they ran- Power I lt and Rt, Maryland I, Pro I, and empty. We had seen empty but not the adjustment they used this game. They put their stud in at QB(tipped their hand sure) and had him pump fake it and take off with the ball. They got the ball first, got a first down and punted. It was a defensive struggle for much of the first half. We each punted twice and got stopped on downs once. They roll out their trick play in the 2nd quarter and it goes 20 yards and 15 yards on consecutive plays- we take a TO and adjust- they never threw out of empty with him in- and shut it down. They scored on a naked bootleg with their QB from about 5 yards out- runningback gets the 1 pt convo. We drove down inside the 20 yard line and get picked in the endzone off Jet Y Seam. The safety made a great play- they get 2 first downs and we stop them. We drive down inside the 15 when the clock runs out on the half. Down 7-0- not really worried. Made some adjustments. Score off Jet 16 Power from about 15 yards out. Miss XP kick- down 7-6. It goes back and forth a few times. Midway through the fourth quarter we have the ball on about the 45 yardline with about 4th and 3- get them to jump. Next play my son- who was in for his series at 1B- he gets a little time at WB and 1B- hits on Spinner Post Pass down to the 15. 2 plays later we run 16 power pass which our guy flat out drops. On third and goal from the 4 we ran 43 Reverse in for a touchdown. Get the XP. They complete 2 passes to the big guy- drop a wonderfully set up throwback screen- and 2 runs go nowhere. They go back to their sneaky play- and we snuff it out. Get 2 first downs and kneel to end the game. Gutsy gutsy effort-on a funny note the other team mom had baked them a cake congratulating them on a great season and in the championship game- must be sour tasting now . We play next Saturday at 2pm for the championship- our parents didn't want to do a bowl game this year because they are burned out- but this year has been wonderful. Virtually no problems. On a positive note our backup wing who is our weakest player and smallest has had the lightbulb come on and is doing really well. He had a 15 yard run off BW Reverse today. I have nicknamed him the mighty mouse- and the team has taken him as a mascot- great little guy. He is 9 and only 59 pounds, but gives it his all every play- Ive made it a point of emphasis that every back gets a carry in a game- including him. He did the postgame break and his mother looked like she wanted to cry- single parent- wonderful lady- and also a MILF haha. He wouldn't be playing on any other team probably- so I am so glad he is having a positive experience. We have all 21 boys commit to playing next year- so win or lose next game I am at peace. We play the other cisar SW team that beat us 2 weeks ago- they are beating the 4 seed 22-0 at half. Should be another nailbiter.

Last Friday night our varsity team (I'm the DC) completed an 0-10 season. The worst team in the history of the school. Our games were ugly and we have a lot of work to do. It is especially frustrating because over the last 20 years we have won over 80% of our games.
But I digress.
This year 3 varsity coaches also coached our local Midget division team (8th graders).
After going 0 and 10 on Friday night our Midget team played for a championship on Saturday night. I could post a really long post, but I'll be short. Down 28-14 with 6:10 left in the game...we came back to win 29-28. Scoring a TD and getting 1 point with 1:26 left in the game.
Emotional roller coaster. 0-10 Friday night. 9-2 and champions Saturday night. Crazy year...but fun.
Good luck to all teams.

WE WON!! 8-10 B CHAMPIONS!!! Sorry for the late post. Its been quite a day as you can imagine. We were one of the two teams playing in our organization for championships (both won). We won today 35-34 in the most competitive game of the day-not to say the other games weren't good at all. We played at 2 pm so we got there at 12 to warm up. Little bit of drama as our starting FB went to the wrong field and couldn't get over to us until right before the weigh in. We deferred to the second half, they took the ball and went 8 plays and scored a TD- got their conversion. We went 6 plays and scored off 16 Power Pass from about 10 yards out. Tied 7-7. Stop them- go 6 plays again and score off Spinner BB wedge. Miss conversion. Trade possessions until we score on Jet 18 Sweep from about 20 yards out. Miss kick- go up 19-7 at half. We fumble on the second play of the drive (Jet handoff mixup) and they recover and score- get 2 point conversion down 19-15. We score on the first play of the drive off a 65 yard pass- get kick up 27-15. They score on their first play of the drive. miss kick 27-21. We get stopped- they return a punt down to the 2. punch it in 2 plays later make conversion up 28-27 as we start the fourth. We go on a 13 play drive that took 5 minutes off the clock- scoring on 24 Blast with our backup 2B from 5 yards out on 3rd and goal. We get the kick to go up 35-28. They in turn go on a 8 play drive and score with about 55 seconds left. Go to tie- run 43 reverse and we snuff it out. We recovered the onside kick- ran 2 plays and kneeled and let the clock run out (they had 2 timeouts) This is my 5th year coaching youth football and the second championship I've won- the first being in 2011 at the intermediate level (5/6/7) which we went 13-0. This years win was probably just as satisfying for me just to see the kids and the parents so happy- I didn't stop and take it in after winning the first one right away. The kids and parents were almost crying tears of joy. The other team was class acts-devastated but very supportive and classy- shame someone had to lose. Our game ended at 4:20 and most players didn't leave until 6:30. We have our end of season celebration December 3rd and 4th at my house- the 3rd night is a party for adults . I will move up to the next division next year- as are 10 out of 21 of our guys. Hopefully I can get half of them back next year- great group of kids and a better group of parents. All 21 players will play football for our org next year- draft is randomly generated- so I hope I can get 5 kids on my team next year. My older sons team lost in the first round of playoffs (lost to the 2 seed)- 7/8/9 division (he is in 8th grade and will play JV ball at our HS).
