Hey coaches! My name is David, but everyone calls me coach Dave. I recently started coaching a youth team(ages 10-12, with our JV team ages 6-9) this year in Temple, Tx. This has been my first year and I've had a blast, till recently. We've run into quite a few problems, thus leading me to find this forum. I've already started working on all of the problems and hopefully we can salvage the last three weeks of our season and MAYBE get into our playoffs. If not, that'll be ok, but at least most of our kids will be returning seeing as they are nearly all 10 yrs old. We will be losing 4-5 of our oldest kids and they will be missed sorely, not just for their playing ability, but becausee they are awesome kids! I look forward to keep enjoying this forum and reading all the advice/stories of yall's sesasons.

Welcome Coach Dave! I coach a small town varsity program in Upper Michigan. My team is 7-1 right now! I had to take this season off because I'm deployed to Afghanistan.
You will read and learn A LOT from these forums! Good luck!

We had the old head coach step down and become the president of our team to deal with family issues, only to turn around and try to butt into our system without ever reading the books or watching the dvd's. We run the Dave Cisar program, and without educating yourself, which he hasn't, he just throws monkey wrenches in everything. My friend and I were running the system, but he kept meddling. We've tried to keep a united front so as not to alert the kids, but it's been failing so far. So we've decided that next year we will move to the league in the next town over(about 7 miles away) and start our own team because the coaching staff is all in agreement that he will not budge on anything. Sort of a "my way or the highway" deal with him even though he was only supposed to be the president and not coaching. We've agreed to finish the season and part ways, which is prob a good thing because we've seen so many bad things in this league and the board of members just look the other way because quite a few of the coaches from four teams are on it. I know it sounds like a "I'm taking my ball and going home" mentality, but when your kids KNOW those other teams are letting kids that are playing middle school football AND playing youth football against us, it breaks everyone's moral. This league is 10-12, and those teams have 14-15 yr olds playing. It seems we're always playing against insurmountable odds in this league, plus with our president/head coach having run his mouth to the point where officials don't like officiating our games because of him, the games never seem fair. It seems our team and two other teams are the only ones with any kind of integrity and it's killing the kids moral and love of the game. But I know we're doing a good thing by keeping our heads up and motivating our kids to keep on keeping on.

As far as other problems we've had are the typical player agents getting riled up about their kid not playing where they want them, etc, and some other things concerning Dave's system. Plus I've emailed Dave a couple of times concerning his system as well, but what I've found interesting is that most everyone here is in a league that initiates a draft. I've never heard of that, and think it's an awesome idea, but from what I've been told in this league is that it's been voted down numerous of times. I could see a weekend combine where the kids could go through drills and then the coaches draft them through there. Plus it'd prob attract more sponsors for better equipment and jerseys than our league has provided! We've gone through so much trouble getting equipment in this league that some of the parents have had to go buy their own, after they are told that their fees include the equipment when they signed up. It seems this league is so unorganized and run by high school kids rather than adults who would take this as serious as our players do. Sorry for my long rants, but I'm hopeful for next yr in a league that is well organized so our kids can enjoy the full experience and we can have more fun!

Well, needless to say, we've made corrections to a few of our problems and the kids moral. We still lost saturday, but the kids never gave up and started to play "team ball". We MAY get in to the playoffs if we win next saturday as we have a bye week this saturday, but we're not gonna let up on them. Gonna go ahead and move on to the next series of plays in our book. We run the DC's Single Wing book, both offense and defense, and the kids are really starting to "wake up" now towards the end. We've lost quite a few kids due to various reasons, so we're playing "Iron Man football", so I hope for no injuries if we do get into the playoffs. Hopefully next year we can move leagues and by then have all our returning players and just "refresh" them on the system and move forward more quickly! I've had a blast this year, not just coaching great kids, but learning this new-to-me system! The possibilities are endless on adjustments to what your team is seeing! Just have to recruit some good receivers next year and I think we'll be unstoppable!
