I posted this in the general board first, but i think this might be more appropriate. I have been coaching defense for a couple of seasons but will be taking over as HC for a team of 6-8 yr olds. I have a couple of quick questions: 1) I am looking for some suggestions about an online play diagraming tool? Something user friendly but effective. 2) Is there a great youth offense system out there that I should look into implementing? 3) We currently run a gap-air-mirror defense and have had a lot of success but i'm open looking at some other successful youth defensive schemes. Is there any you guys might suggest? thanks for your input Read more: coachhuey.com/thread/61481/couple-quick-new-hc#ixzz2hKqNwHhP

Ive found that a basic wing t is a very easy and effective offense for youth football. Can run 8 plays from a bunch of different looks. And a 5-3 or 6-3 defense is what i would recommend.

Standing recommend'n for that age range: beast. If they master it and you think they can handle more, it could fairly easily be expanded to a more conventional single wing.

Bob and Big Joe, Thanks for the input, I should have mentioned that this was for an 8 man team that I'm running for the winter. I have decided that I'm going to run a version of the single wing with a balanced line. Bob, it actually reminds me of a beast offense in many ways.

If you have Microsoft Word, use the drawing tools. I have made playbooks with Word only i the past. Now I use playmaker pro and word. I copy and paste from playmaker into word.

When using letters just type them, don't use the drawing tools for "O's". To move the lines/arrow's exactly where you want (some can be slightly off), right click the line and go to format object at the bottom, then to the layout tab, at the bottom there is an advanced tab/button, click that. Now you can move the line/arrow that small distance by manually changing it's "absolute position".

I do a ton of diagramming in PowerPoint. I find it pretty good about drawing shapes and lines. Just make a template or two and you're set. You also have the added benefit of now owning a presentation for when you want to show other coaches or your own players your plays.

Defense : look at JJ Lawson's 33 Stack
Offense : Any of the DC offenses (DC Wing T, DC Run&Shoot, DC Single Wing) or the Mahonz UP / DOWN System.
Drawing Tool: PowerPoint

33, Out of curiosity, I believe you currently run a 33 stack. What adjustments would you make if you were running it for 8 man football? 95% of the time, teams in our division are running the ball. It is a requirement that the offense have 5 men on the line of scrimmage.
interested to hear your thoughts.
When you say DC, are you referring to Dum Coach or Dave Cisar? I ask because I didn't think Cisar ran wing T or run and shoot, i thought it was only single wing.
thanks
