At 28, my friends/rivals are no longer being drafted (although the few that are left are making BANK now) and I haven't been lucky enough to coach anyone who has been/will be drafted (yet?). Anyways, I'm curious if anyone's got a former player that's been picked or will be picked Saturday?

I've got one who might be picked in the 6th or 7th. He will be a "high priority free agent" if he doesn't get drafted, meaning he will be signed by Monday.

Just found out that one of our guys, Shawne Alston RB West Virginia, was signed as a FA by New Orleans. There were a couple of guys who we played against who did get drafted.

Having coached, coached against and played with guys who are in the NFL, I can firmly attest that we, as coaches, had ZERO impact on them turning out the way they did. Primarily, it is genetics and solid parenting (that didn't get in the way of their genetics & academics).

Also, I think the OP has the intention of providing a "THAT'S MY BOY!" thread.......not in the "look what I made him" way, but in the "just proud of him" way.

Check this out... it falls right along with Brophy's comment about these guys in the NFL being freaks genetically. www.mcmillanspeed.com/2013/02/what-takes-you-to-wont-take-you-to-b.htmlWhen I was a skeleton athlete Stu had a former Bobsleigh guy that was in and out of the NFL a few times guy was nothing amazing in terms of playing. I honestly don't know if he ever played a down or just was training camp fodder. Never the less he was a physical freak people called him the Tick from that crazy cartoon: www.mordantorange.com/images/06apr/tick.gifIt didn't matter what I did in the gym this dude was going to be able to squat more plates per side than I could count. Still makes it cool to watch all of this stuff though!

Agreed.
However, on the flipside, I think bad coaching can lead to players not being noticed, missing out on college and thus not reaching the NFL.

If they are true NFL quality the chance they aren't noticed is very slim regardless of coaching.

if a kid is that good, he'll get noticed. we also struggled this year but have a guy getting BCS level offers, even after missing about 1/3 to 1/2 of the season with injury.
Played against a guy who signed as a undrafted free agent though I believe he was cutt prior to the start of the season and is now a small college OL coach

I cannot tell you how much greater of a coach I was when I consistently had D1 quality players on my OL than I am now not having that. Those guys made me look like a genius.

Coached David Bakhtiari in HS (not directly as I was not OL coach), he then went to University of Colorado, then drafted to Green Bay Packers He looked like this in HS, then like this when he went to CU, and now at draft time... Has a lot to do with coaching HAHA

He ended up on the "high priority free agent" list, quickly signing with the Titans. To Brophy's comment, I am quite certain I had no direct impact on his physical abilities. It was in middle school, and although we had a weight program he was involved in, I doubt that created the physical specimen he has become. Honestly, he wasn't even great in middle school. He was a two-way starter, but not a stud by any means. There were at least two or three players who were more valuable to the team while he was there. The only contribution I might have made to his current success is that I got on his tail all the time about a lack of effort, both in the weight room and on the field. I knew he could be better, but I don't believe I ever thought that an NFL contract was in his future. Like Dubber said...I just wanted to say THAT'S MY BOY, because he's a good kid.
