I have always been a part of a 2 way player practice schedule that has practiced 2:15 every day. I would love feedback/opinions on what we are doing. We go offense/Defense/ a little kicking game every day and it seems like a ton of transition. Would I be more successful with A Tuesday Offense Day (15-20 minutes of special teams), Wednesday Defense day (special Teams), Thursday - O/D Final walk thru/ kicking game
Our typical schedule is below:
Monday - We have only our "varsity" kids - right now about 15 kids - Others at JV game. Typically we watch film, run/lift - go over basic install. Not sure how to make this meaningful
Tuesday - Offense/Defense with 15 minutes of special teams
Wednesday - Same as Tuesday
Thursday - Heavy special teams, O/D finalization/ Film
Would absolutely appreciate input.

We do Offense on Monday, Defense on Tuesday, and split both Wednesday and Thursday.
We cover Punt and PAT/FG on Monday, Punt Return and Block/Goalline Defense on Tuesday, Kick-Off Return and Kick-Off on Wednesday, and review all on Thursday.

I do get that BLB - but from an efficiency stand point I feel like I would like to get better - just seeing if my schedule passes the eye test.

Our Monday is just like your, you can only do what you can do with numbers like that. We have about the same number of kids as you do on Mondays.
The only thing we really do different is that we have an O day and a D day so Tue is usually O, Wed D. We have an offensive team take off for about 5 mins after warm up with a varsity group and jv group going. After that we go into specials for 15 mins or so. Then 1/2 hour of team opposite of the main focus of the day so D on an O day and opposite the next. Then indy/7-7/team. I think that kind of keeps us on track since we aren't switching gears half way into practice and guys aren't moving from O to D position. I am sure with your numbers (like ours) you have guys who play OL that may be a LB or a FB who plays DE which can be madness when you switch from O to D.

we do O/D/K every day. Kicking game is about 15-20 minutes a day. We lift on Mondays, so there is a little less time. But, O and D both get indys and either a group or team. Tuesday and Wednesdays are usually about 10 min Indy O and D (each), 15 min group (each side) and 15 min team (each side). We will skew things as needed, but that is the basic format. Thursdays is going over the game plan in all phases.
Our HC feels that if they have to play both O and D on Friday nights, then they need to do both in practice every day.

Wingtol- what does your Thursday look like? On Thrs. we do our walk-thru so it's team o vs. bags/AAA D (alignment and assignment)/Specials If we have a Sat game then we have Thrs as a split day with team O/D and maybe some indy or tackle circuit.

Pretty much the same as others.
Monday - Films of upcoming team. Varsity walk through, coditioning, etc. JV Game Tuesday - Heavy offense, red zone defense. Kicking Game either punt/return or kick return Wednesday - Heavy defense, red zone offense. Other part of kicking game Thursday - Pre-game and review. Frosh Game Friday - Game Day Saturday - Previous night film
We go full pads all week. We try and throw in as many challenges as possible throughout the week to compete at different phases of the game.

Ok what are you guys doing for total time for each practice? We do about 2.5 with 10 min of specials and 10 of conditioning each practice.

When you guys have a offense focus day or defense focus day how much time are you spending on the opposite?

I wasn't a fan of ever doing just O or just D because there are skills I wanted worked every day and things I wanted the kids to hear every day.
Focus days worked well for us. We would do indi's for O and D every day. We threw the ball a lot so we would also do some form of skelly. Our kids worked on the fundamentals of both sides of the ball every day, but we didn't do team/inside run/skelly/etc. periods for both sides every day.
We did Sp. Teams every day. Monday was an offensive focus. Tuesday was a defensive focus. Wednesday was split however we needed it to be that week. Thursday was JV night so we did what we could.
If transition times have been an issue something to look at might be posting a scout depth chart in the locker room for any drill you need a scout team. It will make transitions even faster if the kids are drawn where they should line up and you should be able to transition to team in 15 seconds or less once the kids are trained. I spent way too many years pulling volunteers and putting them into position.

As much as we stress Defense (emphasize two days-spend half hour more on a week) I think I would suffer withdrawal if I didn't get to call Offensive plays every day.

When you guys have a offense focus day or defense focus day how much time are you spending on the opposite? We do a 20-25 min team period at the beginning of practice for the opposite of what we are focusing on that day.

What I like about having one strictly offensive day and one strictly defensive day is that we get to meet/game plan on that side of the ball with complete focus.
Some of our kids get reps on offense or defense on the scout team every day if they aren't on the side of the ball we are emphasizing.
