Are you guys serious?? You don't feel any different when you're playing the 'weak sister's of the poor' in week 2, as opposed to a buzzsaw in round 3 of the playoffs? Hell, I like it...make me feel alive. Nope. When we come to work, that is what we do. Each day we are going to chop wood, not matter what. It is built into our program. To do anything different would be a disservice to our kids. Now do I enjoy the 2 the same, no of course not. I would much rather beat the team that gives us fits; those types of wins are much sweeter. It goes back to the thread about getting over the hump. Each week is a week to get better. If you are not improving each and every week, even up until the final game, then you won't get to the finals. But I don't coach the games to live and die by what happens on Friday night. What turns my crank is the that daily grind, and finding the successes on the Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. And that is why I don't get nervous or feel pressure on game days.

I coach HS Football (even after retiring from teaching) because it's FUN - the camaraderie with coaches and kids, teaching the sport, seeing the kids develop and execute, the competition. Notice I didn't say winning.
Here's where the pressure (or maybe as others have noted "anxiety" might be a better word) comes in:
The LUXURY of coaching is winning. Don't lose when you should have won. So I want to make sure that we have prepared the kids to the best of our ability to give them a chance to win, and also do a great job of coaching during the game for the same reason.
