Looks like a tech error ended up in getting the last thread deleted, but I got the OK to repost.
While many Americans are polishing off leftover turkey, enjoying the glow of the holiday, and prepping for the frenzy of the upcoming Christmas/shopping season, the next couple of days are just the worst days for many of our brethren. So for all those who post "i would do anything to coach college ball" or "I would love to just coach, not teach" or " I ultimately want to be a college coordinator" or "I ultimately want to coach on the next level".. or "I am just a jr high coach"... Take stock in what you have, and feel good about yourself as the next couple of days will see lots of hardworking men losing their jobs just before the holidays. And remember, it isn't just those BCS headers with buy outs losing their jobs.

probably the WORST time of the year for many coaches in college, because football IS YOUR JOB, it always makes for a very stressful holiday season because the insecurity of bringing in a new Header at this time through spring is always a day away from getting the axe (now what?).

The coach of Akron got the phone call that he was fired while driving with his family to his mother's funeral.

Well, I have been a part of 2 different college staffs where the HC was let go/fired... Every coach goes into it knowing their job is basically in the hands of some pimply 20 yr old FG kicker..The worst situation IMO, and it happens all the time, is when a HC leaves for the next better job and doesn't take his staff..

I couldn't imagine being an assistant at a lower level program (D2, D3, NAIA), pulling down 30k a year (maybe) and then getting canned at Christmas. Sh-tty.

I couldn't imagine being an assistant at a lower level program (D2, D3, NAIA), pulling down 30k a year (maybe) and then getting canned at Christmas. Sh-tty. That is why I didn't pursue opportunities to coach in college. I saw what the guys that were doing that graduated before me had to put up with. IMO the college coaching life style was not what I wanted when it came to having a family. Having said that one of the those guys I went to college with is now the DC at Florida but really paid his dues for the past 17 years to get there.

It's that time of year again---thought I would bring this back to the top to help everyone remember to be thankful for their current lot in life....could be worse.
