Not sure if anyone else read this, but I thought it was very interesting to see how Saban uses mental conditioning for his players: sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/andy_staples/11/03/alabama-mental-conditioning-coach/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_t11_a9I'm currently reading Saban's "How Good Do You Want to Be?" and I own, but have not yet read "The Inner Game of Tennis" (because I read that Pete Carroll gave it to Lawrence Jackson a few years ago in order to sharpen his mental focus and provide him with some perspective). With that said, are there any things that you guys do to help sharpen the mental focus of your players? Or do you have any other books that you would recommend on this subject?

Dr Tom Osborne at nebraska used to have his players visualize their assignments when they got to the line of scrimmage.
I have found what we call cram session to be good. we put a play up and we have players explain how to block it vs various fronts.

there are a lot of online journals documenting self-efficacy (which is what Bama's program is founded under)

How would the high school coach go about looking into this, seeing as most of us would already be limited in who we could hire and funds etc.?

Because Nick Saban has Alabama money.
I don't see where self-efficacy is about bringing in motivational speakers or psychologists. If you do leadership training in the off-season or do spiritual mentor/discipleship, this is the same thing. You're teaching how to organize, process, and mentally train yourself for successful outcomes. Its presenting a future / outcome that consists of a bigger picture than just 'right now'
You COULD bring in someone, but why would you need to?

I don't think I'm anywhere near as qualified as a sports psychologist is why! Duece

I don't think I'm anywhere near as qualified as a sports psychologist is why! Duece neither is this guy the program structure that I've seen from 'Bama isn't anything ground-breaking. Its just introducing outcome-based, forward-thinking, positive-decision processing to your kids....just like teaching them visualization techniques for athletic performance
