My jobs as a ms coach is easy...keep them interested in football. Every year I have the same conversation with the high school head about what do you want kids coming to you to already know. Simple, tackling without the head and simple blocking fundys...after that, have fun. I don't run the same offense or defensive scheme that they do at the high school, and the high school header could care less. He's a really good coach and if I can have them sort of adapted to good fundamentals, then he is happy. As far as this board goes, it is the greatest. If I ask a question on here, I have always got great answers and opinions. Now those opinions may not always jibed with mine, but it always got me to thinking, which is a good thing. A coaching mentor of mine once said, "if you stop learning at this game, you better get out"....i learn something new about football everyday and that is what makes this profession so exciting. By the way....I have a huge EGO, you should see it.

I'm with tiger46 here (support). He had a lot to articulate, if you have problems reading, I guess you can stick to 7 word responses. I'm sure you'll get a lot of information out of that.... With regards to "coaches ego", take a cue from coachd5085's post above on clarifying just what, in particular, is the source of irritation. It takes all kinds. And one should be determined if a coach is; + Just a straight up AHole + Just seeking a deeper understanding/galvanization + Just has a different/contrary view + Just is offering sales pitches (send), and has no intent to receive anything (more to do with'ego' of selfish pride/prove himself to others) I'm sure I fit the bill of the top 3 about 90% of the time. Not right or wrong, but I happen to value friction more than comfort when dealing with 'answers'. Defending a view/idea can be extremely beneficial in developing your teaching/game plan (rather than gaining false confidence to be proven wrong on game night). I am learning to NOT POST. You can have the best of intentions, and still be received as advesarial by folks seeking replies, and get no where (when contrary/non-affirming input will NOT be received). Brophy I tottaly get you trying to NOT post but I have learned the most when someone does post back and it is adverserial. We had a huge thread on BP & shuffle I learned more on that when we were all hammering on eachother than in most stuff. We may not always agree BUT please do not consider not posting. Posting is why this board works!

Yeah, I kind of miss brophy's posts; straight, blunt and to the point. If you posted a good question, he gave you excellent feedback. If you posted something that had a 'well-DUHH' solution, that's the answer you got out of him

I guess there's something else that I don't understand with this thread..
No matter what level or where I have coached at, there has always been personality conflicts between coaches on staff. Real world, face to face issues that weren't deal with behind a computer screen. On the best staffs, like the one I currently coach in, everything is dealt with professionally and behind closed doors; it doesn't matter how big or small the issues really is. I have coached on other staffs where things were petty; when issues were hashed out, they weren't done so in an adult manner, often piping up in front of kids. H-ll, I had two assistants on a youth staff that went after each other like you wouldn't believe one day; I tried to get them to deal with things diplomatically before hand, but it boiled over. AND, they were only around each other for three-four days a week over the space of six weeks, much less a full HS season..
Now, either way, you'd better have a thick friggin skin to deal with these things. Again, it can only make one wonder how much experience some of those guys getting all p-ssed off really have. If you've had just one of these face-face issues, you'd have a whole lot thicker skin when posting on a forum.
