I am in the weight room every Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 6:00-8:30 P.M. Now I'm a young Head Coach, in only my third year, and I've had what I'd like to consider a positive impact on the vast majority of the young men I've coached. However, I know there have been a couple players that have taken exception to my philosophy, values, and personality. As we all know, having high expectations of those around you doesn't always rub people the right way. We coaches understand this and live it everyday. Holding kids accountable can be met with resentment and taken personally. I am still shocked that anyone would ever resort to something like this as a form of conflict resolution. This kid is obviously messed up and I hope he gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This is such a tragedy for Coach Thomas's family and friends, the football program, the school system, and the community. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone effected by this horrible act of violence. Tomorrow, Friday, I will be back in the weight room where everyone knows I'll be. I will not pursue my passion of coaching football in fear. I will stay the course that my values: commitment, discipline, effort, toughness, and pride have set me on. I plan to have a positive impact on many more players in my career with this approach. I will continue to have high expectations of kids and hold them accountable regardless of the possible outcome. I would do this anyway but I plan to do it also in honor of Coach Thomas. Never met the man in my entire life but I didn't have to. He's a hero in my eyes. R.I.P. Ed Thomas.
