The "in over his head" comment (IMO) should not be the off cuff/dismissive remark it is being used here.
Tony's problem, as a Coordinator, was no buy in from his assistants, which ultimately undermined him. Early in the season, they had problems just get the snaps off correctly. Then you had the complaints about 2 or 3 pt sets. This speaks to the global coaching concern of bring at least one guy you can trust with you if you are going to be setting up "your" system.
I completely agree with Hemlock's assessment on faith

just to butt in on the TF vs TT and the "IT HAPPEN ONE NIGHT IN AUBURN" It was Trust, TT did not trust TF and TT boys are and always will be TT´s boys...so the knife was already sharpened to be put in someone´s back... I DO NOT CARE A RATS PATTOWEEE ABOUT PRAYER AND THAT SORTA THING, if TF would have been scoring points, the Boosters would have built a synagogue in the locker room...the O failed and TT and the TT mafia sold that poor boy from Kentucky down the river faste than you can say, pecan pie. JUst my 2 centavos you áll...

hemlock, you are brilliant. The old saying applies, "I don't understand a word you've said-but it sounds great!" You asked a couple of things. The reason Alabama people (not just fans in that state) equated the AirRaid with high school is because so many high schools in Alabama run that offense.(think Hoover) So, most people thought of this offense as a high school offense, and rightfully so. Nothing that happened with Tony and Auburn changed that perception. It just plan didn't work. I'm not going to try and discuss why with you because you are way too smart for me. But no matter, it didn't work, so that made everybody say, "See I told you that high school offense wouldn't work," (in a wonder southern accent.) But the bottom line is-it didn't work. We also know it had nothing to do with the offense, it was about people. Everything in football is about people. Now, you asked why Auburn would turn to a coach like Tommy Tuberville. Coach Tuberville and Auburn have been pretty successful over the last 10 years or so. When they went 13-0 and didn't get to play for the MNC (that's mythical national championship) because their fanbase isn't large enough to support a national audience, no one was talking about that dense Tommy Tuberville. Tommy came along when Auburn's football program was in bad shape. He doesnt' have the world's most engaging personality, but he was good enough to get them through probation and out of a difficult time that Terry Bowden had dropped them into. He was a great guy for those days, I feel that he just got tired of the job, and let too many things slide. That is a natural thing to happen to people. He looks like he "fell asleep at the switch." Thanks for posting your brilliant stuff, I'm gonna' read it a couple of more times so I can figure out what you've said. Good stuff. OJW
