coachorr--I don't know if your comment was aimed at me (since I brought up the test score as lacking). Let me clarify, obviously he has the academic qualifications to be eligible. My point was that simply being clearinghouse eligible does not open a wide variety of doors to a student athlete. Being clearinghouse eligible groups them with every other eligible football player (in this case WR). Unfortunately for this young man, many of those other guys are either 4 or 5 inches taller (because we know 5'10" in recruiting means 5'8 1/2") or 2 or 3 tenths faster.

5'10 175 lbs., 4.5 forty. High school playmaker.
Those are a dime a dozen. Although NSU is a good school, and has produced some great players.
Gary Reasons, Odessa Turner NYGiants, John Stephens NE Patriots, and I think Bobby Hebert NO Saints, and Mark Duper Miami Dolphins.

I coach at ECA and am the video coordinator for the varsity. Deleon is a very good high school player whom got looks from college recruiters but they all wanted that 6 foot 3 or 6 foot 4 receiver that runs like the wind and can jump buildings in a single bound. LOL. The thing that hurt Dee is his height. He was a jam up ball player and go to guy anytime we needed a first down. Recruiting from college coaches is a inexact science as you can never guess what they are really thinking. I have found that once a athlete gets offered, there is more genuine interest from competiing colleges. Deleon will be just find at NSU as I look for him to earn a scholarship after his freshmen year.
In answer to coachgreen, their has been teams that we have had that are loaded but year in and year out we play the toughest nondistrict schedule that we can find as airraider and Coachd5085 can attest to. In years past we have flown to CA to play DeLaSalle,Southlake Carroll,Lufkin Tx,Marshall TX,Bastrop, La, West Monroe La, Byrnes S.C. and many more. This year is no different as we play 3 state champions, one state runner-up, and one 5A semifinalist. Back when we were in 5A, we played good compeition week in and week out. Now we have had our hats handed to us before and we have handed some hats to some folks. At the end of the week we will particpate in the National Select 7 on 7 tourney to begin the long road to our season.
In answer to the QBguru, the kid you see throwing the ball is Dez Duron whom I fully expect to sign somewhere after this season. His dad played at La Tech, won a national championship and played a little bit of the World Football League and the Washington Redskins. He is a extremely smart kid and runs our offense like the back of his hand.

Coach H
I was wondering when you would chime in. Regarding your schedule (and thus, the competition that Deleon played) I agree, the non district schedule is top notch. However, I do understand coach green's point of view as well. How much of that highlight tape is against the John Curtis's, the Calvary's, the Bastrops...and how much of it was against. Homer, or Caddo, or Rosepine. Not in ANYway knocking the kids accomplishments...just saying that from a recruiting perspective, when I see a tape with long gains and big plays against lesser opponents, and 5 yard runs against top notch opponents, it makes you a bit concerned. I do not know any of the circumstances in this particular case.

My thoughts- 1) - If you want know why he was not offered/recruited ask those college coaches why they'll explain their reasoning. 2) why as a coach (or player) would you waste energy worrying about something you have absolutely no control over? Work hard- do the best you can, that you control.
We had a kid here in Az. this year who as a QB was like 23-1 as a starter, led his team to 2 state titles and was the Gatorade state player of the year and got 0 offers. He's walking on at Boise I believe- his defiency? Size- only 5' 10" or so and 175 lbs. but a player without a doubt- hard to understand the thought process but zero offers for a kid like that baffles me completely.
