I have bought a few pair but cannot afford anymore. Many of my boys are very poor. I have asked at Dicks if they would donate but that is all corporate stuff. Does anyone know of a way to get a discount. We have found some really nice Nike cleats that match our colors perfectly and they are relatively cheap. Does anyone have anykind of advice that they could offer? Anyone know of any discounts?

Bruce, I went to lots of yards sales, flea mkts., etc.. and found many pairs of real nice, practically new football shoes of all varietys. Cheap too, like 50 cents -2 bucks a pair! Another good place, depending on the size of your kids feet, lol, was the older boys on the hs teams. They often had old or outgrown shoes?

LOL ...I appreciate it. The yard sales may work!!! The HS kids would be too big and old...I coach a Flag (6-8 yo) team and now a pee wee (9-10 yo) team...it is my flag team that I am concerned about.

Try going to the local MS/HS now and see what they did with the stuff that was left in the lockers at the end of the year. Also, at the end of every season I put a big box near the door and tell the kids if their feet are still growing they may want to throw their cleats in the box. Someone can always use them next year and I always get 10-12 pair for next years kids. Most every pair will be used next year by my kids but it may be something that you want to do in the future.

I hit all the second hand stores in Dec and Jan, usually buy 25-30 sets for $3-$4 each. We also have all the kids donate their shoes at end of season if they are getting small. We have 120-150 in inventory now, most in excellent shape. We put em all through the washer and put new laces on them.

Also talk to the soccer coaches, they may have kids that are willing to cut loose with some out grown cleats.

Those are ALL great suggestions.. But Middle and High School cleats don't help my 6-7-8 year olds.

The smaller sizes are the easiest to find in the thrift stores.

We ask all of our players to leave their cleats with us for just that reason if they don't think they'll be able to wear them the next season. We get about 15-20 pairs a year and most are only 1 or 2 years old. Our kids are not wealthy, just generous. They like to give back to the program.
That will not help you this season, but should help the problem in future years.
